Dear Big Vanilla Pasadena Members,

For the past 38 years, I’ve worked hard to create community fitness facilities that promote the value of health-centered lifestyles in the Arnold and Pasadena communities. Since beginning my career at Big Vanilla in 1978 as a fitness instructor, I transformed Big Vanilla Arnold from a tennis and racquetball club into an organization focused on community service and improving the health of all members.

In 2005, I applied those same tenets to the vision of building the Big Vanilla in Pasadena. The goal was to create another community club, committed to the health and wellbeing of its members. And to serve as a gathering place for members, whether at the aquatics center, or on the fitness floor, or in Jack's Café.

There are some major changes going on at Big Vanilla that I want to share with you. As we did with tremendous success in Arnold, we have entered into an agreement that allows the Y of Central Maryland to purchase the Big Vanilla Pasadena location and convert it to the Y in Pasadena, effective May 23, 2016.

This transition allows me to practice what I preach - to live a more balanced life by spending more time with my family and friends, and to focus on other business interests that I have been associated with over the past five years.

I am proud to be placing the BV Pasadena-baton in the hands of the Y... a charitable, mission-driven organization that is community-centric and shares my values. The Y has been in Anne Arundel County for more than 18 years with significant youth development programming and is supported by a dedicated volunteer board of Anne Arundel County residents.

As a member of the Y in Pasadena, you will enjoy the same programs and benefits that include use of all Y facilities throughout the entire Y of Central Maryland network, discounts on youth programs, free family events, opportunities for volunteerism as well as access to scholarships for those who need help to afford Y services. I am also pleased that the vast majority of current staff have been asked to join the Y team and those who have chosen to will be entering a pathway to professional growth and development within a dynamic, regional organization.

Please join me in welcoming the Y to Pasadena. Thank you for being loyal members and for helping to make Big Vanilla a part of your community.

Sincerely,

Larry Ray
