J.T. Sackett joined the Big Vanilla Arnold staff just after his sixteeth birthday, first as a party host and then as a lifeguard. J.T. was a favorite of the Aquatics Department because of his friendly, open nature. This summer he was a Big V Summer Camp counselor, and the campers enjoyed his ready smile and great sense of humor. It was hard to say goodbye to J.T. when he left to start college at UNC Wilmington because we knew we would miss him, but we were enjoying his mother Vicki Howard's updates. It didn't surprise us that he settled in and made friends quickly. It is with profound sadness that we heard of his death on Friday, September 25th. We will grieve for him, and do everything we can to help Vicki through this terrible time.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at The Hardesty Funeral Home in Annapolis. You may sign the online Guestbook at the Hardesty Funeral Home Website. The Celebration of Life was held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, at St. Margaret's Church. Hundreds of family and friends gathered to offer condolences last week on Wednesday at the visitation, and to celebrate his life with tears and laughter on Thursday. UNCW friends of JT had a candlelight vigil memorial service on Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, on Wednesday, October 7th.
To donate to the JT Sackett Foundation: Memorial Bracelets are being sold at the café: $3.00 per bracelet and all proceeds will go to the foundation. More details to come. Big Vanilla will be holding a fundraiser to benefit his scholarship fund in the spring of 2010.
